Lotus Salad at Khmer Touch restaurant. So Yum!
If you go to Siem Reap, do yourself a favor and avoid Pub Street unless you are looking for a frat party. There are plenty of bars, pubs, venues that are far more enjoyable and less tourist focused.
As for food? It is abundant and delicious ranging from super cheap to still pretty darned cheap for what you get.
We had dinner at the Khmer Touch which I highly recommend. It's traditional Khmer food with some updates thrown in and the food and service are both impeccable. However - do not use the ATM machine that is right next to the restaurant. I tried twice to get cash and failed only to see later that I had been charged by my bank so... avoid it at all costs.
After dinner we went shopping for liquor, cigarettes and prescription drugs. The first two are really cheap, much cheaper than Thailand, and the third, well, it's easy to get a wide variety. Peter wanted to get some Oxycodone to have for emergencies and ended up buying Oxycontin without realizing it. Antibiotics and the "pam" family of drugs (Diazapam, Citrolopram etc) are plentiful and cheap so we each got some Cipro and some valium for flights and were happily on our way. Thank you Cambodian Pharmacy!
We walked back to the hotel where I sat outside and got eaten alive by mosquitoes. For some reason the mosquitoes here love me and their bites take a long long time to disappear. Totally unusual for me but so far, nothing horrible has come from it other than really unattractive bumps all over my legs.
Tomorrow we drive back to Bangkok. It should be an interesting experience and a really long ride. Let's hope it's not too long.
