Went for another walk in the park this evening with the intention of trying to finish a drawing exercise. It seems that I don't have anxiety attacks when I do this outdoors for some reason so, I figured it was worth a shot.
On my way there was again the Minute-of-No-Motion for the King and I did try to take a picture of it. It came out badly but since it happens every day, I think I can manage to get it next time. It definitely feels like I'm in "The Matrix" when it happens. Tomorrow I will see if cars stop as well. So weird.
As I started walking again I noticed a man jogging with his hands above his head and a huge smile on his face. He looked so goofy and so happy that I smiled as well. After I sat down and pulled out my pad, the smiling man walked up and asked if he could practice his english with me because I looked like an American... great.
We talked for a while about people he knew in the states, one of whom blogs about the politics here. I asked if that was safe to do and he replied indirectly saying that he didn't like being told what to do and what not to do. He started getting pretty emotional about it so I made a point of changing the subject not commenting. It's weird to be paranoid about stating your opinion but I've been warned that it's potentially hazardous to my health in this country. It would have made for a much more interesting conversation than what transpired, though he did mention the fact that he felt like Bangkok had lost all sense of style in it's buildings. "There's no color and no one knows how to do interior design. Everything you see that is interesting or colorful, they import a designer to do."
I asked if it was the same in the country and he said it's worse. No love of the old styles seems to exist according to him. I have to go see for myself I guess.
