I arrived in St. Petersburg in the evening and got dropped at my hotel. I was concerned that maybe I would be too far from anything but found that was not the case at all. I was a good fifteen to twenty minute walk to anything ” major” but I was close to both the Faberge Museum and the Jimi Hendrix blues club… Found entirely by accident.
One friend had told me that the city was beautiful and another, that it was huge. Both friends were right. The hugeness isn’t so much due to square footage as it is to the monumental size of the buildings. They are wide and low which gives them some heft and makes them seem larger. There is something about their sturdy grandeur that is a bit intimidating. We don’t really have a lot of that in the states except for imposing government buildings.
Big, big, BIG, but pretty in St. Petersburg. The staff at the Indigo Hotel are awesome. It’s so nice to be taken care of for a few days so I’m soaking it up. The dining room has these cool hanging sculptures that I think must be made of paper. It’s nice to have them overhead while eating breakfast.
