After hiking and wandering around all day we went back to the hotel, passed out and then went out for a fantastic meal at the Damnak Lounge Fine Restaurant at the Lotus Blanc Resort. The food was excellent - fusion of Khmer and French and the wait staff were super friendly and good at their job. We were surprised that there were so few people there as it is noted as the #1 restaurant on TripAdvisor but.. whatever. We were happy with the quiet and the attention.
After dinner I dragged Peter back to the Laundry for a drink. It was a totally different vibe without a live band and they had pulled pool tables back into the center of the main bar room. Again, super chill atmosphere, decent music, good mix of people and cheap cheap cheap drinks.
We walked back to the hotel via the river and watched couples smooching, folks gathering to drink or play cards or just chat. Clearly the river is the place to be.
More tour tomorrow.... we will go to Angkor Wat itself and also Banteay Srei which is smaller and further out but noted to be one of the more detailed and beautiful temple sites. It took some wrangling with the tour guide who was trying to convince us it was too far, even though the tour operator I booked with said it was included. In the end, after I showed him my itinerary, he relented. I wouldn't have cared so much since it isn't like there is a lack of temples closer, but I had done so much research and this sounded really special so it was an absolute must for me.
Today... I win! Yay.
